Food grains and more

Traditionally, the Sattvic diet included a wide variety of whole-food grains. Many grains were eaten seasonally, and rice was not consumed daily. A whole grain has an outer covering, bran, which often causes irritation in the gut when people have gluten intolerance. The bran covers the ‘germ’ rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and other nutrients we seek. The innermost part of the grain is the endosperm, the storehouse of complex carbohydrates and protein.

When a food grain is planted, it uses the resources in the endosperm and germ to sprout and expand the leaves. Once the leaves form, the plants become capable of producing their own food with the help of sunlight and water through the process of photosynthesis. Every grain we eat is a potential seed that can grow to produce more food grains. The recipes in the book Quick Sattvic Recipes for One are versatile, and you can use any food grains to adapt to your recipes.

Diversity of Food grains in the Sattvic Diet

You can make the recipes with any of the food grains such as Amaranth, Barley, Brown Rice, and Wild Rice, Buckwheat, Bulgar, Corn, Einkorn, Millet, Oats, Quinoa, Rye, Sorghum, Spelt, Teff, Wheat varieties (Farro, Freekeh, Khorasan, Wheat). All-natural grains are versatile and can be prepared as a salad or a main dish. They can also be included in baking recipes. For example, if you love vegetable soup, make them with whole food grains. Mix the food grains or make them alone.

Sattvic recipes not only include a diverse range of food grains but also a diverse combination of spices and vegetables that are available locally. Because of the possible permutations and combinations, sattvic recipes can be prepared everywhere vegetables are available. Therefore, it does not matter if you live in Alaska or Sahara; you can still make sattvic food with vegetables or plants collected locally. You can also grow your own vegetables and complete any of these recipes.

Sattvic Method Company offers many opportunities if you would like some help with methods, ideas, or recipes to cook locally grown vegetables, grains, or plants. Variety of Techniques

Using this cookbook, you will learn various new techniques such as baghaar, dry roasting, smoking, skimming, simmering, tempering, and other practices associated with gentle cooking. For example, the Sattvic Method does not cook or over-process vegetables at high heat. Moreover, the emphasis is on making food fresh and consuming it quickly.

About the Recipes

The book was born as a remote coaching experience during the pandemic. Therefore, it has the limitation of using seasonally available vegetables and spices that were available locally. Masha loves good food, but she only cooks occasionally. You can read more about Masha’s profile and how the week unfolded.

There were days when she was tired, too tired to cook. So, we adjusted the recipes to her energy level. The title Quick Sattvic Recipes for One promises to deliver simple, delicious recipes for busy people. Of course, you can constantly adjust the salt and lemon to your taste. Also, although we used measurements, the recipes can survive approximations and your occasional preference for one ingredient over the other.

The book has 21 recipes, all of which were prepared by Masha during our online cooking sessions. The recipes include both trendy and traditional menu items. Following the recipes, you will easily make smoothies, chips, and conventional meal items. If you have a sweet tooth, you will find some fruit recipes you will like and enjoy. The book is an eclectic collection of recipes that will appeal to people of all ages and can be prepared for parties. Masha wanted to learn how to make a wide variety of foods from fresh fruits and vegetables.
